Thor Ragnarok has been filmed in various location; mainly around Australia one of the reason is that most of the main cast comes from Australia. Because most of the cast comes from Australia, transportation is not a problem for the cast members because the production company does not have to provide accommodation for the cast members from Australia, therefore saves money.
In Thor Ragnarok, when Thor and Loki were looking for Odin, they arrived at the city. The city was actually shot in Brisbane Central Business District and was made to look like the city of New York, during the production stage, the city was closed for 4 days from 11th to 15th August 2016 to film the scene. Because the CBD is closed for shooting a scene, people who travel around the CBD had to take a detour and the traffic during the 4 days was busier.
When Thor and Loki finally found Odin at Norway, it was filmed in Atlanta for a reshoot in July 2017. Initially, the scene where Hela breaks Thor’s hammer and fight in the alleyway would be taken place in the CBD alleyway, but Marvel Studios decided to change it to Atlanta because the director did not like that scene taken place in the alleyway.
When Thor was sent to Sakaar, and in Asgard, the real location of both of those locations was in Village Roadshow Studios which is a well-known studio set used to film for other films such as Aquaman (Marvel’s rival company- DC’s film) and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The set took 4 months to be constructed in order to film some scenes there, and the producers had booked the set throughout the entire 2016. There is also a sound set in the Village Roadshow Studios where Marvel has reserved all 9 of the sound studios. There, scenes such as the Asgard’s rainbow bridge and when Thor and the people of Asgard evacuated to the spaceship at the end of the film where post-production effect has been used to make the locations more realistic for the audiences to see.
When Thor was thrown into the wasteland of Sakaar, instead of filming it in the sets, the scene is filmed nearby the set at a Quarry. This would help budget implication as they don’t need to spend extra money on booking a Quarry but instead would have to spend some money on preparation.
